BUKBORD: The Origin

Peter Read is the founder and inventor of BUKBORD. The idea for the game came to him while living beneath a buckeye tree. (No, not literally) Pete would often pick up fallen buckeyes and toss them into a hole in his table—until one day, he realized just how entertaining the activity was. Inspired by this simple pastime, Pete created the first BUKBORD in 2012 and has been handmaking each one ever since.


A few years later, Pete was introduced to an aspiring sports official from Chicago. 


Matt Dykstra was new to the scene and was looking for sports equipment for umpires and Reads Sporting Goods was his choice. Naturally, a bond developed.


Sports. Entertainment. Fun. Creativity. BUKBORD!


A few years later...


Matt and Pete decided to pursue BUKBORD. They started to spread the news with close friends and business affiliates, since they share the same passion within the sports and fitness industry....BUKBORD is born officially!

LET'S PLAY! Original BukBord Rules (O.B.R.)

  1. Red tee goes first and tumbles 3 buks down the bord 
  2. Use the red tee to record total points after all 3 buks have been tumbled
  3. Blue tee then tumbles the same 3 buks
  4. Blue tee records their score using the blue tee to complete the inning
  5. First player with 11 or more points by the end of an inning wins
  6. See the diagram below to determine how buks on the line are judged

Finley Dunne's BUKBORD Night

Matt introduced BUKBORD to one his favorite restaurants in Chicago. Pete and Matt hosted this evening at Finley Dunne's Tavern in Chicago for their first ever bukbord Game Night! Huge shout out to everyone who played and thank you to Finley Dunne's for showcasing the bukbord!
